HOW TO FIGURE OVERHAULING WEIGHTS
hr

This is a conservative method of approximating the load block weight
required to overhaul the wire rope properly on crane applications.

crane

TAKE:  Approximate weight of wire rope on backside of boom (Table A: x boom length)
+       Pull required to overcome friction of hoist drum (nominally 100 pounds)

Required weight of load block

TABLE A: WIRE ROPE WEIGHT
SIZE LBS. PER FT.,

7/16 .36
1/2 .46
9/16 .59
5/8 .72
3/4 1.04
7/8 1.42
1 1.85
1-1/8 2.34

1 1.03 1.05
2 2.07 2.14
3 3.15 3.28
4 4.25 4.48

EXAMPLE:
5 Parts 7/8" wire rope. 50' boom, roller bearing sheaves.
Required Weight = [A(50) + 100] B =[1.42(50) + 100] 5.38 = (171) 5.38 = 920 Ibs.
